World’s Wind Turbines Drive Copper
A new report says the global wind turbine fleet to consume over 5.5Mt of copper by 2028.


China High Efficiency Motors
ICA China and the Shanghai Electric Apparatus Research Institute (SEARI) have signed an agreement to promote the use of copper rotor motors as the country begins adoption of high efficiency IE5 motors. SEARI has started the development of IE5 induction motors by cooperating with 6 major motor manufacturers in China, with the prototype development to begin shortly.


Australia Building Wire Growth
ICA Australia is working with the country’s 4 main Cabler registrars and training groups-representing around 76,000 cablers-on adopting the home electrical wiring Code of Practice. The new standard was at the heart of ICAA’s participation and marketing for the recent Security and Integrate Shows in Melbourne and Sydney.


China Energy Efficient Water Heaters 
ICA China partnered with the China Energy Conservation Association to organise the recent 2019 China Heat Pump Alliance Conference in Shanghai with over 800 people attending. Heat pumps are China’s most copper intensive heating solution-last year they used about 30,000 tons copper-and ICA China released the “2019 China heat pump annual report” at the conference.


Next Step For “Responsible Copper”
The Responsible Minerals Initiative and the International Copper Association have agreed to boost the use of a new assurance program for responsible copper production this year called the Copper Mark.


India Power Quality
ICA India is working alongside other stakeholders in an expert group on ‘Quality of Supply’ formed by Central Electricity Authority for the national Ministry of Power.  A national regulation is currently being drafted for Quality Supply Delivery by Utilities and their Standard of Performance for adoption soon.


Traditional Village Electrical Safety
The Building Electricity Society highlighted the outcome of Traditional Village Electrical Safety Demonstration project in Yinjiang county featuring copper rewiring for improved fire safety to protect traditional wooden buildings. ICA China contributed to the wiring design through an expert industry group-which saw copper use increase by 30%-and with Legrand planning to develop another re-wiring project in Hunan province.
